Device License โ Not a Subscription
Device-Bound
The license is tied to the hardware it is pre-installed on. It cannot be moved to another device and does not follow the user โ making it compatible with dedicated and shared-use appliances.
Pre-Install Required
Office LTSC Embedded must be installed on the device before it is sold or deployed. It is not available as a retail box, download, or upgrade license for existing installations.
No Microsoft Account Required
No Microsoft 365 account, no cloud sign-in, no internet connection required for operation. Ideal for air-gapped, kiosk, or regulated environments.
Fixed-Function Devices Only
Available exclusively for dedicated-purpose devices โ such as point-of-sale terminals, medical devices, industrial PCs, kiosks, and similar purpose-built hardware.
MAK Activation
Activated with Multiple Activation Keys (MAK). Activation can be performed over the internet or by phone โ no ongoing cloud authentication required after activation.
Product Lifecycle โ Office LTSC Embedded
Office LTSC Embedded follows a fixed 5-year lifecycle with no mainstream/extended split and no Extended Security Updates (ESU). Plan device replacements or re-imaging accordingly โ there is no extended lifecycle option beyond the listed end-of-life date.

Licensing Conditions & Eligibility
Office LTSC Embedded is available exclusively through Microsoft IoT/embedded distributors and is subject to a Channel License Agreement (CLA). It is not available through retail, volume licensing, or CSP channels.
Activation with MAK Keys
Office LTSC Embedded is activated using Multiple Activation Keys (MAK). MAK activation is a one-time process per installation and does not require ongoing cloud authentication. Activation can be completed via internet or by telephone.
OEM Embedded product keys are requested through the OEM Embedded Activation Product Key Request Form at the Microsoft Device Partner Center. For questions about key requests, contact msoemops@microsoft.com.
